About the school

A state, college-preparatory Gymnasium (secondary level) in the State of Lower Saxony in Northern Germany. Our student population consists of approximately 1140 students, all attending full-time. They are about 11 to 19 years old. At the present time 65 teachers work at the GFS. The school is divided into Sek I and Sek II sections. Students enter the Sek I at the beginning of the 5th grade. Throughout this Sek I the students are organized in classes with an average size of 32. Basically, all students in one class take the same subjects, the average is twelve. Upon completion of the 10th grade the students receive one of three final evaluations. Only those receiving the top evaluation are promoted into the Sek II. Around 70% of the students entering our school in the 5th grade achieve this goal. Otherwise, they leave the school to pursue an occupation or take a course of study at a vocational or trade school. br /br / br /br /Age: founded in 1923
